About Us
the Comox Valley Child Development Association
The Comox Valley Child Development Association (CVCDA) is a non-profit society that has served children who need extra support for over thirty six years.
The geographic area (map link) served is from Oyster River to Mud Bay,
and from Denman Island and Hornby Island to Cumberland.
For many years, the CVCDA programs were operated from the Child Development Centre in Cumberland and included preschool classes for both typical children and children who need extra support. During the 1990's, the policy shift from centre-based service models to community-based service models gained momentum, and significant "block" funding was transferred from the CDC to the authorized (individualized) funding as part of the implementation of the Supported Child Care Initiative. As a result of the funding change, the CVCDA relocated to Courtenay when new funding was awarded in 1996 and the CVCDA became the sponsor for the One Stop Access (OSA) to Child Care Services Project.
