CVCDA Update: March 16, 2022

On Friday, March 11, 2022, the provincial health officer introduced an order lifting the Workplace Safety Order effective April 8, 2022. This means the CVCDA will be required to transition back to our communicable disease plan for ongoing reduction of risk of all communicable diseases. While communicable disease prevention plans and COVID-19 Safety Plans share some of the same fundamental principles, COVID-19 Safety Plans are formal, written plans with more rigorous controls and are more appropriate for periods of elevated risk, such as those faced by B.C. workplaces by the Omicron variant in the past.

Additionally, through this announcment, B.C.’s indoor mask order was repealed meaning masks are no longer being mandated by Public Health in public spaces including our indoor spaces at the CVCDA. It is now the personal choice for both staff and clients on whether to wear a mask. However, mask wearing is encouraged.

Our currently implemented COVID-19 Safety Plan will remain in place until April 8, 2022 alongside our COVID-19 Response Plan will remain in effect as we continually monitor the Provincial Health Authority for any updates that may require revisions.

We recognize these are challenging times for you and your family and we are doing our best to make well informed decisions that prioritize safety while striving to provide ongoing services to the children and families in our community.

It is important to note for new families seeking our services, our Family Advocate (advocate@cvcda.ca) continues to accept referrals, do intake and work through our ongoing waitlist.

Preparing our various protocols and plans has been a meticulous process. Including a complete internal assessments of the association with considerations for all individuals, employees, workspaces and services along with the specific needs of each of our 17 diverse programs. With such an array of services offered from multiple locations, we do truly require a multi-faceted approach to each phase of our COVID response.

Our OH&S Committee has prepared our CVCDA COVID-19 Safety Plan (available in the side bar). Our completed reopening plan incorporates many of the guidelines laid out by the Provincial Health Authority, WorkSafe BC, Health Sciences Association and our Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Finalizing our restart plan to meet these guidelines was a must, and is part of our CVCDA mission to continually safeguard the children, their families and the greater community.

We are grateful for your continued patience during this extraordinary time. We believe these steps for a safe reopening are the best action for our organization in an effort to prevent any potential spread of COVID-19. Whether we continue to provide our services virtually or in-person (by appointment only), we cannot wait to see all of the smiling faces of our families once more!

On January 7, 2022, the provincial health officer introduced an order requiring employers to re-activate their COVID-19 Safety Plans. This replaces the previous requirement for employers to have communicable disease prevention plans in their workplaces. While communicable disease prevention plans and COVID-19 Safety Plans share some of the same fundamental principles, COVID-19 Safety Plans are formal, written plans with more rigorous controls and are more appropriate for periods of elevated risk, such as the one currently faced by B.C. workplaces by the Omicron variant.
