Global Roots Project collaborates with CVCDA to bring mural to Courtenay

Apr 9, 2023 | Events, News

Coming June 2nd, 2023, the Comox Valley Child Development Association will be the lucky recipient of the Canada Connects Spring Mural. This donated mural will be a large format (10′ x 20′), mosaic style mural made up of 2000 individually painted tiles. The tiles have been painted by participants from all over the world but also many were painted by members of our own community including CVCDA Board and team members, program participants and their families along with some of our community supporters.

On March 9, 2023, the Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project announced their collaboration with our organization for the installation of the Canada Connects Spring Mural (design concept pictured above) in downtown Courtenay outside of our main offices, located at 237 3rd Street. This piece will live here permanently and be a wonderful addition to our organization, the arts and the community as a whole.

The official unveiling ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 2 at 12:30pm with more details still to come. We will compliment the mural unveiling with a CVCDA fundraising event including garage sale, food, music and special guests. Save the date.

More about Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project

Global Roots ProjectThe Canada Spring Mural Mosaic celebrates the collaboration of hundreds of individual artists throughout Canada and several parts of the world. Each artist’s painting is their own interpretation and insight into the project’s theme of connection. The overall mural is a representation of how these hundreds of voices are connected, and how when we come together, we can create harmony in one shared experience.

Since 2003, Mural Mosaic has been creating art that celebrates unity and diversity through awe inspiring mosaic productions. Using the Mural Mosaic process invented by artist Lewis Lavoie, the mission of our work is to bring people together in a way that honors everyone’s unique perspectives. We have produced Mural Mosaics throughout North America, inspiring viewers to recognize the beauty of our differences and come together in one united art piece.

Our Mural Mosaic team is elated to have the opportunity to have the Canada Connects Spring Mural installed in Courtenay. We hope to inspire those who visit it to explore their creative side and to create works of art that bring them happiness; we encourage everyone to find their own unique way of expressing themselves through art.

“We are thrilled to have the Comox Valley Child Development Association chosen as one of the sites for the Mural Mosaic, Global Roots Project! I believe this incredible art piece is a perfect fit, as the Comox Valley represents a community of people who are deeply connected and who have enthusiastically supported the work of the CVCDA for nearly 50 years. The concept of the mosaic art tree is a wonderful symbol of unity and connection and perfectly reflects our amazing community”. Cindy Xavier, Executive Director – Comox Valley Child Development Association

Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots is a unique initiative that aims to bring people from around the world together through the power of art. Each Mural Mosaic production invites people from communities everywhere to come together to celebrate their unity through their diverse expressions of art. With each tile placed in a mural, Global Roots is reconnecting the world through the joy of art – one tile, one mural mosaic, one country at a time.

The Global Roots Project and production of the Canada Connects Spring Mural Mosaic is funded entirely by its participants including the donation of the physical mural to Comox Valley Child Development Association.
