Hi everybody, it’s Bob here and I am joined by Cindy from the Child Development Association, one of the amazing organizations in the Comox Valley. And Cindy, for those that aren’t aware, what does the Child Development Society do? Well, thanks, Bob. The Comox Valley Child Development Association has been in the Comox Valley for 50 years.

Our services have expanded greatly over the last couple of decades. But the core of our services is to assist children and families with any developmental services that they might need. So that could mean many different things.

We have speech and language therapists, we have occupational therapists, physiotherapists, we have an infant development program, we have family support work, we have community integration. The agency actually has 17 different programs, which is pretty incredible for the size of community that we have here. But one of the reasons that we exist is the need in this community and is the support that we get from our community.

And we have people from all walks of life that use our services. And there is nothing that gives us more joy than to see kids and families thrive from receiving the services that we’re able to give. That’s fantastic.

And I can say as a family that has received those services, when our twins were born in Victoria, within a few days we were contacted by the Child Development Association to let us know that our daughter, who had been born with a cleft palate, that they would have speech therapy and they’d be doing all sorts of services before our kiddos were even home. And, you know, our kids are now 18 years old, our twins are older, but they’ve received services right throughout their whole life. And it’s great to come back.

I get to volunteer here from time to time and see that it’s not just young children, but it’s children who have been here for quite some time. And, you know, because there’s not a lot of services, even once they sort of age out of some of the other services. And it’s really, I just have to say, it’s awesome that we have this amazing organization in our community.

Not every community has one. And so I just want to thank you and all the people that make this possible. Thanks, Bob.

And you make such a good point because we have, you know, for example, our supported child development team that works in daycares and schools. And everyone collaborates and works so well together with other, you know, invested community service providers. And, yeah, the important piece of this is the kids and families.

So thank you for sharing your story. That’s what we thrive on is being able to hear those stories from families. So, yeah, it’s great to have you here and to share my experience.

My pleasure. You’ve got a lifelong volunteer here. And I know my kids love coming to the telethon and any opportunity you have to help out.

So thank you so much. Thank you, Bob.
