The Behaviour Consultant services provided at the Comox Valley Child Development Association is a program that works closely with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), Youth and Special Needs Social Workers (CYSN), to provide support to families with children who meet the ministry criteria for the program.

The Behaviour Consultant connects with the family and identifies goals for the child and family to work on. The support provided addresses a variety of needs that families may have including behaviour management, self-regulation and coping strategies, sleep training, toileting, and augmentative communication using evidence-based strategies that are individualized to the needs of each child and family.

The Behaviour Consultant also works closely with many of the local schools, day-cares and community programs, including the Out Of School Care program. Utilizing a collaborative approach has been beneficial in creating greater independence and success for the child receiving support. This program has been successful in supporting a variety of children and youth, ranging in age from 4 years to 17 years old and continues to successfully address a need in our community.
