FOR PROFESSIONALS

The Comox Valley Child Development Association (CVCDA) provides evidenced-based intervention to children under the age of 6 through the use of qualified staff members.

Our services include family supports and social groups for school-aged children, youth, and young adults.

Children with a suspected diagnosis of autism must be referred to a paediatrician and receive a diagnosis of autism, prior to being eligible to attend the autism program (TAP) run through our agency.

Referrals to our agency may be done by parents, service providers, and physicians and paediatricians.  Referrals may be made by fax, mail, or email using this form (click here for fillable/printable pdf form)

Our fax number is 250-338-9326

You can email the form to advocate@cvcda.ca as an attachment

GROUPS

Several community groups use the CVCDA building as their home base.  The “Comox Valley Autism Family Support Group” and the “The Preemie Support Group” are two of our regulars.

AUTISM PARENTS SUPPORT GROUP

A SUPPORT GROUP FOR FAMILIES IN THE COMOX VALLEY WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM.

The CV Autism Family Support Group provides support to families in our community who have children/young adults on the autism spectrum. The group offers monthly meetings with a community of parents who mentor and share their experiences. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at the Child Development Association in Courtenay.

There is no official diagnosis necessary to join our group. If you have a need for support surrounding autism then we are here! We offer peer support to parents/caregivers in a non judgemental confidential atmosphere.

Find out more on the Comox Valley Autism Support Group website.

GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN

A SUPPORTIVE GROUP FOR GRANDPARENTS TEMPORARILY OR PERMANENTLY RAISING THEIR GRANDCHILDREN.

This group is a innovative partnership between the Comox Valley Transition Society and the CVCDA to provide support to grandparents who are either temporarily or permanently raising their grandchildren.

Raising grandchildren can be overwhelming at times. Often it helps to know that you are not alone. This group is free, confidential and can provide support and information about resources available.

If this group might fit your needs, please contact Lee Bjarnason at the CVCDA local 223.

PREEMIE SUPPORT GROUP

The support group hosted bythe Comox Valley Child Development Association provides support and guidance to the families of babies born prematurely (preemies).  If you would like more information about this group and the times that they meet, please contact Michele Walls, Infant Development Consultant.  250-338-4288 ext 222
