BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATION PROGRAM

The Positive Behaviour Support program is a provincially-funded in-home support program for families who have a child (aged 3-18) with diverse abilities who presents with behavioural challenges.

The Behaviour Consultant partners with families to identify priorities, assess, and develop individualized Positive Behaviour Support plans for children. The plans and strategies are then implemented by families and other care-givers, with training, support, and ongoing monitoring from the Behaviour Consultant. Positive Behaviour Support can address a variety of concerns including:

  • aggression and self-injurious behaviours
  • successful participation in important or valued routines and events
  • challenges with eating and sleeping
  • self-help skills such as toileting and self-care routines

Teaching skills to help the child get their needs met without challenging behaviour is a very important aspect of the program. We focus on building skills related to communication, friendship, and emotions.
